Hi!

My name is Kelsey Martell (she/her). I’m a board certified psychiatrist based out of Spokane, Washington. When I’m not seeing patients, I can often be found surrounding myself with furry (or feathered!) family members, losing myself in the great outdoors, or battling my way through the latest video game.

I was born curious, and nothing has held my attention as long as the complexities of the human mind and spirit. A previous career as a registered nurse opened my eyes to both the depths of human suffering, and importance of connection in relieving it - but I needed to learn more! So back to school I went, to begin my training as a physician.

Complementary and integrative approaches to mental health first piqued my interest as an endeavor in self-help. While beneficial, the standard treatments I’d received for ADHD and PTSD had not gotten me all the way to where I wanted to go. I wanted more than symptom reduction. I wanted my authenticity back. I wanted to feel connected. I wanted wellness. The more time I spent as a psychiatrist, the more people I encountered in search of the same.

I’ve practiced in a wide variety of settings including outpatient clinic, hospital psychiatry, resident education, and electroconvulsive therapy. Unfortunately, as a psychiatrist working for a large healthcare organization, there was little tolerance for personalized care, and time with patients was short. If I wanted to use all the tools in my toolbox, I’d have to break away from big-box medicine. And thus, Mountain Psychiatry was born.

Wondering what it’s like working with me?

My practice integrates complementary and alternative approaches with conventional psychiatric treatments and psychotherapy. I enjoy blending Western medicine with Eastern philosophy and wisdom. In fact, I’m master level trained in Reiki and recently began studying Zen Buddhism. I believe spirituality (in its many forms) has a place in medicine and psychiatry, and won’t shy away from exploring existential or transpersonal issues.

Your individuality will be valued, your experience respected, and your authenticity encouraged.
