Why receive KAP at Mountain Psychiatry?

  • Continuity of Care

    • Because I’m both a physician (psychiatrist) and a psychotherapist, you work with me, and only me, at every appointment. Not only does this maximize privacy, but also means you spend less time retelling your story, and more time focused on getting better. In order to maximize the benefit from your ketamine experience, it’s crucial that you feel safe, both physically and psychologically - so you’ll never be surprised by an unfamiliar face.

  • No Referral Required

    • Self-referrals are welcome. Since you’ll be receiving all your care from a board certified psychiatrist, no referral is required for KAP at Mountain Psychiatry. Your medical screening and psychiatric evaluation will be completed with me, and are included as part of your treatment package.

  • Highly Specialized Care at Every Step

    • Many ketamine infusion centers are staffed by healthcare professionals that have no formal training in mental health. My background as a board certified psychiatrist with extensive training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy allows me to safely provide you with not only the medication itself, but also with the appropriate preparation and integration therapy to give you the best possible results.

  • Flexible Scheduling

    • Limited weekend and evening appointments are available. My patient panel is deliberately kept small, which allows my patients to experience more flexibility in scheduling appointments.

  • Personalized Treatment

    • Dosing and treatment protocols are specifically tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

  • Option for Additional Psychiatric Care

    • If you wish, we may be able to continue our work together beyond KAP. See my Services page for additional details.

The KAP Process

  • 60 min | In-person or telehealth

This appointment is focused on determining if ketamine is an appropriate and safe medication for you to use. Appointment time is spent reviewing your medical and psychiatric history, medications, social support system, and any other relevant information. Vital signs are taken and reviewed. Detailed education will be provided regarding the risks, benefits, and alternatives to KAP. Occasionally, patients may be asked to obtain clearance for ketamine therapy from a specialist (e.g. cardiologist, neurologist, etc.) prior to beginning.

  • 60 min | In-person or telehealth

A primary goal of the preparatory session is to create a deeper sense of trust and safety prior to your dosing session. Time during your appointment is spent reflecting on your treatment goals and setting intentions for your experience. We will discuss how to prepare for your dosing session, and what to expect during the rest of the process. Your preferences regarding the use of music, therapeutic touch, meaningful items, ritual, or other requests can also be addressed during this time.

Rarely, I may recommend additional preparatory sessions be completed prior to your dosing session.

  • 180 min | In-person

Following a brief guided medication or other centering exercise, Ketamine is provided via an intramuscular injection or a sublingual dissolvable tablet. Typically, the medication effects can be felt for 30-90 minutes. You are encouraged to bring your focus inward, and allow your own inner wisdom and intuition to guide the journey. I will be present, providing support throughout the entire experience. As you return to your usual state of consciousness, you may choose to participate in expression through art, journaling, talking, or other forms of processing. Healthy snacks and beverages are available.

  • 60 min | In-person or telehealth

This very important step is focused on processing and finding meaning in your experience. We reflect on how the insights you gained during your journey might be applied to everyday life.

  • Depending on treatment goals, patients typically complete 1 to 6 dosing sessions, each followed by an integration session.
